Biography

John Davenport was recently appointed the to the position of Director of Bands and Instrumental Music at MCC.

John Davenport received two Associate Degrees from Glendale Community College in Business Administration and Music, a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a Master’s Degree in Instrumental Conducting, both from Northern Arizona University. He also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology from DeVry University. Mr. Davenport has worked for over twenty years as a high school band director in Flagstaff, North Phoenix, Mesa, Gilbert, Fairfax County, Virginia and Queen Creek, AZ. His ensembles have performed in festivals in Phoenix, Southern California, Orlando, Atlanta, Williamsburg, Nashville, New York City, Vancouver and Europe. Mr. Davenport has been an adjunct faculty member with Scottsdale Community College, Phoenix College, Mesa Community College and Ottawa University, as well as a conductor/clinician with Scottsdale Summer Music Camp, Northern Arizona University Summer Music Camp and currently with Mesa Community College Summer Music Camp.

Recently, Mr. Davenport served as Treasurer for the Arizona Marching Band Association’s (AzMBA) Board of Directors. He enjoys working as a guest conductor and clinician with various honor bands and instrumental programs and continues to perform around the State of Arizona as a freelance musician on bass guitar and trombone.
